Overview
Live Captions ("the App", "we") turns audio — from your microphone or from the sound playing on your
computer — into real-time captions in the language being spoken. This policy covers the Live Captions app
for Windows and the Live Captions pages of this website (live-subtitles.com/captions/), including
the checkout page. The App does not require an account.

Analytics events and logs are linked to a random installation identifier, not to your name. They never contain your audio or the text of your captions.
The App itself does not ask for your name, email address, contacts, precise location or photos. Card and billing information is handled entirely by Paddle and never reaches us.
Device Identifier
To stop the same computer from claiming the free trial minutes repeatedly, to credit the minutes you buy to the right installation, and to sign requests to our backend, the App derives a stable identifier for your installation and sends it to our backend. It is also passed to the checkout, so that a purchase can be matched to your App. This value is an identifier only — it carries no name, email or contact information.
We show no ads in the App, do not use advertising identifiers, and do not sell your data.
Microphone and Computer Sound
You choose the audio source. Audio is captured only while captions are running, and only to produce captions.
- Microphone — Windows asks for microphone permission; the App uses the microphone only while captions are running.
- Computer sound — the App captures the sound your computer plays using Windows system audio (loopback) capture. Capture stops when you pause or stop captions or close the App.
Captions are shown only on your screen. Other people in a call do not see them and are not notified. You are responsible for making sure that captioning a conversation is lawful where you are (see our Terms of Service).
Transcript History on Your Computer
The App saves each captioning session (text, times and speaker names) in a local history on your computer, so you can scroll back, search, rename speakers, copy or export to TXT or SRT. This history stays on your computer: we do not upload it and cannot see it. You can delete sessions in the History window at any time. Files you export are saved where you choose and are under your control.
Third-Party Services
The following processors handle data for us, each under its own privacy policy:
- Soniox — cloud speech recognition (audio is streamed to it while captions are running)
- Paddle (Paddle.com Market Ltd) — checkout, payments, taxes, invoices and refunds as the merchant of record
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymous usage analytics
- Grafana Loki — diagnostic logs and crash reports
An internet connection is required: speech recognition runs in the cloud.
User Consent
By using the App, you consent to the processing described in this policy, including the transmission of audio to our speech recognition provider while captions are running.
Data Storage and Retention
We do not record or store your audio, and we do not store your transcripts on our servers. What we retain is limited to: your device identifier and minute balance (for as long as you use the App and anti-abuse protection requires), order records (as required for accounting, tax and refunds), diagnostic logs (for a limited diagnostic period) and analytics events (per the retention period configured for our analytics project). App settings and transcript history are stored locally on your computer.
All data is encrypted in transit.
Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the right to request access to your data, request its deletion, and withdraw consent at any time.
Your audio is not stored, and your transcript history is only on your computer — you can delete it yourself in the App. For the data we do retain — your device identifier, minute balance, logs and analytics events — contact us at the address below and we will delete the records associated with your installation, except order records we are required to keep by law. For payment data held by Paddle, you can also contact Paddle directly. You can stop all further processing at any time by uninstalling the App.
This Website
live-subtitles.com uses Google Analytics / Google Ads tags and Yandex Metrica to measure traffic. These set cookies and collect standard web analytics data, including your IP address and browser information, under their own privacy policies (Google, Yandex). The checkout page that the App opens also loads the Meta pixel (Meta). When you buy minutes there, the identifiers stored in those cookies, your browser's user agent and the address of the checkout page are sent with the purchase so we can tell which campaign it came from. This is separate from the data the App processes.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We may update this policy; the Effective Date above will change accordingly.
